The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia starts again from Sepang after a three-year stop

The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia starts again at Sepang with many new features and a grid featuring international drivers that raise the level of competitiveness on the track.

The Sant'Agata Bolognese-based manufacturer's one-make championship has restarted and the first round of the 2023 season was held in Malaysia at the Sepang International Circuit. The Asian competition, which had not taken place since 2019, made its debut and after a three-year stop due to the pandemic, the Lamborghini cars will roar again between China, Japan, South Korea and Australia. On the grid will be 20 cars among which there is also an Italian team, based in the Motor Valley: it's Iron Lynx, which in honour of the partnership with Lamborghini for the LMDH project for WEC and IMSA 2024, will also participate in the Pacific series.

A total of 6 races will take place in as many different countries: from Malaysia, to Japan at the historic Fuji track, South Korea, the Shanghai International Circuit and Australia on the new Bend Motors Park track in Adelaide. Not forgetting the Finals to be held in Italy at Vallelunga.

The drivers were able to taste the power of the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 for the first time. The creature from the House of the Bull has been renewed in 2021 for an improved and even more high-performance version, with eye-catching styling and thrilling speed. Our specially designed intake kit allows the powerful 620 hp V10 to perform at its best in all conditions.

The first race weekend took place regularly in classic Malaysian weather with sudden thunderstorms that can change everything even at the last minute. This was the case in Race 1 on Saturday.  Rain fell on the track just before the start, delaying it for a long time. Once the downpour was over, the drivers were able to take the start and at the end of a race dominated from the first to the last minute, the Van Der Drift/Giltrap duo won for the Absolute Racing Team, ahead of Qiang/Ceccotto and Lee/Kwon.

Race 2 on Sunday afternoon took place in opposite conditions to the previous one with heat and humidity, that put a strain on the drivers in the cockpit. Starting from third position Oscar Lee and Dan Wells were able, after a bad start, to recover and take the lead of the race and hold it until the end. Giltrap/Van Der Drift and father and son duo Tony and Jackson Wall completed the podium for the second and final race of the first round of the Asian Super Trofeo.

Next to take to the track on the weekend of May 12-14 at Laguna Seca will be the North American Super Trofeo Lamborghini drivers, while the European round will not get underway until June 2 in France at Paul Ricard.
