“Fuji is famous for its 1½-kilometre straight and twisty infield, so it’s a tough challenge finding the ideal aerodynamic set-up. The engineers need to choose between low downforce for the long straight and high downforce for slower twists and turns. They generally tend to go for the first option, so the tyres need to deliver as much grip as possible through the infield section despite an unfavourable set-up. Getting tyre choice right is essential”.
